Castles and Old Churches of the Channel Islands

This book is a comprehensive guide to the history and architecture of military and ecclesiastical buildings in the Channel Islands erected before the refortification of the islands during the Napoleonic Wars.

The defensible sites comprise six medieval stone castles, three 16th century artillery forts, one late medieval fortified manor house and two refuges with just earth and timber defences.

The ecclesiastical buildings described include twenty two medieval parish churches, one late 18th century church, several monastic sites, and about twenty small chapels, several of which are now very ruined or have been totally destroyed.
