This new book catalogues architectural features, furnishings, fittings and monuments dating from before the Reformation of the mid 16th century that are to be seen amongst the 900 parish churches in Wales that existed by the late medieval period. Following several introductory sections, over 140 churches with medieval features are described in detail with plans and colour photographs. More summary information is given on medieval features or contents at about 200 other buildings.

Medieval Churches of Wales complements three earlier titles: Old Churches of Gwent, Glamorgan and Gower; Mid Wales (out of print); and South West Wales, that had no colour illustrations, and a fourth more recent title, Old Churches of North Wales. The new title concentrates on churches that have interesting pre-Reformation features, and contains many plans and colour illustrations and a map showing the churches in the main gazetteer.
