This book is a comprehensive guide to the history and architecture of castellated buildings dating from the mid 11th century to the late 15th century in the counties of Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
Following separate introductions describing the historical background, and the development of fortified buildings in each county, are gazetteers illustrated with many plans and photographs.
The book includes major stone castles, moated or embattled manor houses and town defences, plus many earthwork sites, some of which only ever had timber buildings and palisades, although evidence is emerging that more of these sites were fortified in stone than was previously recognised.
