This book describes all the features of interest dating from the Saxon period up until the 1790’s to be seen in 470 parish churches and chapels in Devon.
An introduction describing the development of the architecture, furnishings and funerary monuments of the parish churches in Devon up to 1800 is followed by a detailed gazetteer illustrated with many photographs, plans, drawings, prints and brass rubbings.
At the back is a list of over a hundred 19th and 20th century Anglican parish churches.
Additions and alterations of the last two hundred years to older buildings are noted in the gazetteer entries, but furnishings and monuments of that period are generally not described.
