This book is a compreheensive guide to the history and architecture of 73 castellated buildings dating from the late 11th century to the 16th century in the county of Shropshire. Following an introduction describing the historical background and the development of fortified buildings in the county is a gazetteer illustrated with many plans and photographs. The book includes major stone castles, moated or embattled manor houses and town defences, plus many minor earthwork sites which only ever had timber buildings and palisades upon them. About half of the pictures are in colour.
