160 pages, 420 illustrations (plans and black & white photographs)
This book describes all the features of interest dating from the Saxon period up until the 1790s to be seen in over 260 parish churches in Gloucestershire shown on the map inside the front cover. The Forest of Dean churches are not included because they appear in a separate and previous volume of this series, which covers nearly half of England’s historic counties. An introduction describing the development of the architecture, furnishings and monuments in the parish churches of Gloucestershire up to the 1790s is followed by a gazetteer lavishly illustrated with many photographs, plans and brass rubbings. There is also a summary list of 19th and 20th century parish churches within the area covered by this book.
Fifteen other English churches guides are available, covering:
Cumbria, Northumberland, Lancashire, Staffordshire, Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Forest of Dean, Devon, Cornwall, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Sussex & Surrey.
